disney-668633_1280Ed Catmull, one of the co-founders of Pixar, wrote in Creativity, Inc. “Early on, all of our movies suck. Pixar films are not good at first, and our job is to make them… go, as I say, ‘from suck to non-suck.’”

That’s a healthy attitude to have toward project work plans. It’s not a case that initial plans are always abstractly poor. It’s that from the perspective of how much the work plan can improve during the course of the project the initial work plan can be found to have been awful in comparison. There will always be opportunities to improve work plan.

Best to not let work planning efforts be one-and-done conversations. Keep working on the plan throughout the project.
