Who’s an Inferior and Who’s an Equal?

One of those pithy quotes circulating LinkedIn lately is from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

“If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.”

The sentiment has a history. Click here to read how this theme can be traced back to the 1700s.

Accepting that everyone posting and liking the quote has the best intentions in doing so, let’s step back a moment and think. If we are aligned with the Lean Respect for People principle why would we start, even mentally, to distinguish between people as inferiors, equals, or possibly superiors?
