A C.S. Lewis quote: “We must picture hell as a state where everyone is perpetually concerned about his own dignity and advancement, where everyone has a grievance, and where everyone lives with the deadly serious passions of envy, self-importance, and resentment.”

If the above sounds like a project on which you worked, you will appreciate why Lean project delivery champions are increasingly focusing on changing the culture of project teams. When team members are self-absorbed, envious, self-important, resentful, and carry grievances Lean tools such as Last Planner, root cause analysis, co-location, visual displays and the like don’t work.

Fortunately most people working on teams are ready for a Lean culture based on Respect for People. If you are one of them, there is no need to wait for someone to lead you there – band together with like-minded colleagues and lead the way.
