The appeal of Superman is clear. We can play the role of Superman or Superwoman, swooping in to save people from their mistakes. On the other side of this dynamic we can safely play the role of victim, knowing that a Super Person will come in and make things right without us needing to take responsibility for doing so.
We pretended this worked in a machine driven economy, where people served as parts of a machine operated by reputedly smart operators at the leadership levels of business and increasingly government. That’s a quaint notion, about as realistic as Superman comic books. Let’s understand that effective decision making needs to happen at the point of value creation in enterprises. We all need to be Super now.
