Lean Thinking Needs Artists

A concern we should have is that Lean Thinking, TPS and otherwise, has largely been shaped by left brain thinkers, and has thus been interpreted (and therefore invented) as a largely process oriented set of principles and practices.  Even the Respect for People principle is often spoken of as if the purpose of respect is to build better process thinkers.

If a group of artists could be exposed to Lean thinking in a very serious way it would be illuminating to understand how they might interpret the Lean philosophy toward work in the human enterprise. There may be some ideas that significantly enhance our understanding how Lean Thinking can greatly enhance the lives of people touched by the work.

Maybe we will even replace the first Womack and Jones Lean principle of understanding value from the perspective of the customer.  Maybe the first and most importance principle of Lean is to design the work to promote the advancement of the human condition.
