Last Planner – Don’t Automate the Conversation

robot-1658023_1280A challenge many new teams have with the Last Planner System is that managing the weekly iterations of make ready and work plans can involve a significant amount if administrative work. It takes time, and even when the time invested ultimately saves weeks of field work and a reduction of unpleasant fire-fighting, teams look for ways to reduce the effort required to manage the Last Planner System.

There are cloud software services available to help streamline this weekly work, by automating the flow of information from last planners to project team leaders. Teams are encouraged to experiment with these services with this caution: be careful not to automate the conversations necessary for learning about and improving the work. The Last Planner System is a framework for human interaction and cannot be completely automated.
