A common understanding of the building design process is iterative, and therefore difficult to plan as a linear process. It may be time to challenge that understanding.
When work is performed out of sequence the process of completing that work becomes iterative. It’s time to begin asking if design processes are iterative because we are attempting to make decisions out of sequence. Paraphrasing Steve Spear’s comments earlier this morning, ask what is wrong about how we design, and then what is wrong with our answers.
