The following article from the National Housing Institute provides a look at the potential power of growing part of the economy from within a community. By acting on a vision for a healthier lifestyle for people across their community, healthcare professional Sue Joss and grocer Jason Barbosa created two thriving enterprises.

Developing Economic, Along with Physical, Health

Joss and Barbosa demonstrated that economic growth can be created from within a community. Imagine the potential if instead of just two enterprises, a community was able to internally launch and grow twenty such enterprises. Instead of creating 200 local jobs, 2,000 could be created. Lean thinking provides not just the tools but also the philosophical foundation realizing that potential.

It’s time communities start looking inward and thinking Lean.
