Plenty of highlights. My favorite challenges a now conventional idea. The 80/20 Rule  is a disabling mistake. We cannot define any priorities as unimportant. For example, Alcoa strived to be the best at closing the books. Hardly a core function, but if important enough to do then it better be done as well as possible.

Keys to safety improvement. Alcoa stopped budgeting for safety. Fix safety problems regardless of cost. Great story about Larry calling Paul at home to address a risk – leadership from the front lines.

Three questions all employees must be able to respond to with a Yes.

  1. Can you say you are treated with equal dignity and respect by everyone, regardless
  2. Can you say you are given the things you need, tools, training, support that gives meaning to your life (if not leaders are failing you). No unimportant roles.
  3. Are you recognized every day by someone whose judgement I value.
