My eleven-year old daughter introduced me to the world of MAPs – multi-animator projects. Attached to this post is an example – the OC stands for “original content.” MAPs are short collaborative animations created by many different animators. MAPs are usually made to a song that has been separated into short segments, ranging from 2 to 10 seconds depending on the length of the song. Animators may then ask for a part, and if the host gives the “OK” then that animator will be given the chance to animate it.

Many MAP hosts appear to welcome animators of all abilities (and ages – most animators seem older than eleven, but on the internet nobody knows your age). The projects afford opportunities for a community of animators to learn from each other while developing their own animation skills. Most comments are supportive and it’s clear that the animators enjoy contributing their work to a shared project.

Let’s capture a similar spirit of fun and play in our building projects!
