The Westford Public School system (Westford, Massachusetts) takes very seriously its mission of “Shaping the Future One Child at a Time.” One of their current projects is to examine and improve homework practices in the system. This is not a top down effort. A working group is being formed that will include staff, administrators, parents and a student. The group’s mandate:

• examine current research around homework;
• identify what homework means to our community;
• review the current WPS homework policy; and
• understand how homework is being utilized in our district.
